Does Honda launch an electric cycle?
Yes, Japanese automotive manufacturer Honda will launch its first electric cycle which is popular as the Honda e-mtb concept.
In October 2023 Honda first time they have introduced its e-cycle the e-MTB concept at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo where the other leading Japanese automakers also showed off their coming soon vehicles.
As its name suggests it looks like a mountain e-bike with a futuristic design that far fetched other existing e-cycles.
With the brand name "Honda" and mind-blowing futuristic design, it's gaining a lot of popularity in India and worldwide.
In this rising era of EVs, transportation systems are switching to e-mobility, In such a scenario honda's e-cycle launching is icing on the cake.
Indians, including me, eagerly want to know about its features, pricing, launching date, etc. So, hold your heart and further read all these pieces of information in a detailed version.
Honda e mtb features
Although currently minimal information is available from Honda about this e-mtb, with the help of my research from genuine resources I’m trying to provide you valuable information about its major features.
Motor: Honda used a 250-500W mid-drive motor of Brose (one of the largest automotive components manufacturers) in the e-mtb, instead of this almost all Indian e-cycle manufacturers use a rear hub motor.
The mid-drive motor has major advantages such as it is fixed at the crank which provides power to the chain and then the rear wheel, and provides a real pedaling experience.
With the mid-drive motor, the weight is centralized, and the handling and balancing e-cycle has typically improved.
E-cycle equipped with a mid-drive motor is more compatible for off-road and mountain cycling. The reason behind this is that mid-drive is more capable of riding on different terrains.
But two major drawbacks of these motors are it is very costly and the maintenance is too complex compared to hub motors.
Battery: It will have a powerful 10-15Ah lithium-ion battery capable of covering long-range anyone can enjoy urban or off-road trails without frequently charging.
Range: As I said above it will be capable of covering long range, but how much range? So the answer is 60-80 km on a single charge as per my research. Instead, popular Indian e-cycle brands give 30-40 km in budget-friendly models.
Top-Speed: Its top speed can be 25-30 km/h which is essential for the launch in the Indian market. Because according to ARAI India electric vehicles with more than 25 km/h speed needs registration.
Brakes: With the mid-drive motor for the best performance, the braking system also matters. It will have Shimano hydraulic front and rear disc brakes. It is much more effective than mechanical brakes. Whether in a wet or muddy condition, it consistently performs very well and smoothly.
Other Features: The Honda E-MTB will have other features. Such as a digital display, lightweight aluminum cast frame, DT Swiss XM wheels, Maxxis Minion DHR II Tyres, SRAM Eagle drivetrain, and the Fox Float X suspension system for tough performance on rough terrain.
The launching date in India
Ever since the Honda e-mtb concept electric bicycle was unveiled at the Japanese mobility show, people have been quite excited to know its launch date in India and worldwide.
There is no official announcement by Honda about the launching date of the e-mtb in India or worldwide till August 2024.
After reading and watching several videos and blogs, I just found, that these are only making guesses on the internet without any concrete information about the launch date.
It was speculated that Honda would launch it in the market in 2024 but this did not happen till August. It would be too early to say when this e-mtb will be launched next year as well. Let's see how long we'll have to wait for this e-cycle.
Honda electric cycle price in India
The speculation made by Indians on the pricing of the upcoming Honda e-mtb is also next level.
There is no official announcement on the pricing of e-mtb by Honda. But the surprising matter is lots of YouTubers and bloggers are misleading on it without any genuine source.
They said this e-mtb cycle will be budget-friendly (25k to 40k) in India.
As per my knowledge and research, considering the components and accessories used in this e-cycle and the features available in it (about which detailed information is given below), it is not going to be budget-friendly for us Indians.
Think with practically the e-cycle well equipped with advanced components and offers ultra-modern features so, how can a pricing 25k-40k in India?
The e-cycle with basic quality components and features starts with the pricing of 25k Rupees in India. So to say that the price of Honda e-mtb will be the same is senseless.
It also would be too early to say how much its pricing will be. But according to my knowledge, it can be at least 80k in India.
What did the Honda say?
According to Electrek, Honda is committed to expanding the field of mobility. Their e-mtb concept combines the fun of a motorcycle and mountain biking. It allows anyone to enjoy riding mountain trails and easily going uphill with electric assistance.
Conclusion
If the Honda e-mtb concept is launched then it will surely create a sensation in India’s e-mobility market, offering advanced features and Honda’s trusted quality.
While rumors of a low price might sound tempting, it’s essential to understand that high-quality components and innovative technology come at a reasonable cost. The expected price reflects the value and durability Honda is known for.
As of now, there is no official confirmation of an exact launch date and actual pricing in India but the anticipated release is generating buzz among e-cycle enthusiasts. Stay tuned for updates, and make an informed decision when Honda’s electric cycle finally launches in India.
